Catch of the Day

For those of you who know me you will know that my boyfriend is completely obsessed with fishing and I often tag along and fish with him. Having never fished before I met him I find that I now really enjoy it : )
Yesterday we caught 2 nice sized striped bass off the Jersey shore. There is nothing like catching your own fish and eating it for dinner. Being a Brit I decided to make the old favorite fish and chips so I thought I would share my recipe with you! Well I was actually in a mashed potato mood so it ended up being fish with mashed potato and mushy peas (very English).First my boyfriend filleted the fish (definitely a man's job).

We cut up the fish into small pieces and seasoned with salt and pepper. Next we mixed our favorite fish batter Moose Drool
(sounds gross but is super yummy) with a bottle of beer. We used Heineken but you can use whatever you have. We heated a good inch of oil in a large skillet. FYI use a non stick pan we didn't and we definitely had fish stuck to the pan : (
The trick is to get the oil really hot before dropping the fish in and frying for about a minute on each side. Lay on paper towels to remove excess oil and serve with lemon and vinegar. mmm delish!
Sorry for the blurry picture I was too excited to eat to fiddle around with my camera settings!
Oh and for the mushy peas simply cook the peas combine with butter, salt, pepper and cream (i used milk to make it a little more healthy) then use a food processor to get them nice and mushy.

  3. My mouth is watering from your description of the meal. Living in Colorado now, I really miss the fresh seafood from my hometown of New Orleans.
